If you paste an image into a comment, the double pasting still happens, yet if you don’t manually put the stupid credits, they REMOVE the whole thing automatically with no warning?
What kind of idiot think this is user-friendly? This is worse than the jokes on /r/ProgrammerHumor, yet we’re not joking here.

Yep, 2020 just keeps on giving.
Well I wish it would just give over and f**k off already.

really? is that just in composed posts or does it happen with comments as well? I’m guessing they’re not going back on historic posts and removing them?

Test:
No silent deletion here, though that’s pasting from a URL...
Looks like a direct copy works as well...

It happened to me earlier, had to edit a post 3 times before my screencap showed up.

It happened to me when pasting a screencap on a comment. The pasted image just vanished into thin air.

It’s always hard to tell what is an intended feature vs. a Kinja error.
Pasted (grey)
Linked (white)
Inserted/uploaded (red)
Let’s see what we get!

What’s the cute little middle fighter, Experimental, I assume. I think that is an X- number on the tail but can’t make it out.
I could GIS but that’s cheating. It’s like a bite-size Typhoon/Rafale/Gripen.

As someone who has worked professionally (my income depended on) in photography and graphics I applaud this policy as a real and functional step in the right direction to protect copyright holders (and protecting source/narr ative integrity) ... As someone who makes posts on Oppo, I also agree that it’s annoying as fuck and I wish it wasn’t there.
I’m torn.

I get that, but they’re just taking the agile methodology way too far. As a semi-developer I get the whole release and fix frequently ideology, but if you’re leaving things constantly broken and half thought out like this there’s something wrong with your process.

I don’t think it’s broken, I think it’s intensional. I know if I were designing for copyright safety that’s probably how I‘d implement.
A discussion about the fallacy of agile development is certainly not out of place where Kinja is involved, but this actually feels like one of the less broken updates to me.

I can confirm that 2 hours later (ish) I can still see the racecar.
I posted a comment yesterday and didn’t see it disappear on the spot, though maybe I got lucky.

Easy. Exempt user created content or make it much less painful to insert copy rights.

Can’t they automatically
append
the credit tho? There is probably some kind of database around

Exempting user created content doesn’t solve the copyright issue. Also, the system they have seems pretty easy to me. It's new, and different, but not difficult to use.

1) code would have to be developed (or licensed) and integrated to do so.
2) server overhead and bandwidth to access, search, and retrieve from said theoretical database is not free. And in fact, access to some of the extant databases is not free in and of itself.
3) No single database exists for rights control and record keeping, so multiply number 1 and 2 above by a minimum for 10 for the major commercial and community DBs
4) Not all images are recorded in major DBs, or at all. This does not invalidate their copyright, or the legal rights of the copyright owner.

I suppose they are just covering all their bases but it doesn’t actually make us credit them instead of some witty joke about unapologetic stealing.
It’s not difficult but on most platforms the menu to insert the rights takes a while to load. I think most complaints revolve around the fact that inserting images is still broken but i n my experience they mostly fixed that.

Ugh. This is one thing WordPress actually does a lot better: you can’t publish something until you add copyright info. I’m with JawzX2 that it’s good to protect copyrights (as this is something Oppo’s gotten in hot water in the past over), but they could do this in a more user-friendly way that doesn’t just auto-nuke your post.
This sounds like a good tip for the Kinja helpdesk, which thankfully does still work and is staffed by folks who seem to care about glitches and issues. Here’s the link to report a platform issue.
Related: Apparently they didn’t want to bother getting the rights (or acknowledge if they have them, which seems like something they’d get in a company sale!) to Fusion’s old content at ALL, leaving big, gaping holes in those pieces:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
What utter lazy garbage. You’d think that they’d want to at least keep up the shuttered sites to continue to monetize what they can from them or potentially find a new buyer who wants to revive them , but no! That would make too much sense. It’s far less work to screw over the authors who poured large chunks of their lives into their work .
(P.S.: Jim Spanfeller doesn’t wash his hands after going to the bathroom, either. Rot in hell, herb.)
